Game 2 of 3 Diamondbacks vs SF Giants 9/26/12

The Giants shut out the Dbacks thanks to the beast Matt Cain. Matt Cain just locked up his starting role in the divisional series championship Game 1 with an outstanding performance today getting his 16th win going 7 innings allowing just 4 hits, 1 walk and 6 K’s. The Dbacks struggled at the plate tonight and could not really get the ball rolling as they go 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position and strand 9. The Giants gave them plenty of opportunity with 3 errors but the Dbacks just couldn’t string any hits together to get a run across. Wade Miley the rookie of the year candidate would go just 4 innings and give up 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 3 K’s and drop to 16-11 on the season.

Matt Cain Gets The Win

Matt Cain would not only beat the Dbacks with his arm but would also do it with his bat in the 3rd inning hit a single to centerfield that did not look like a pitchers swing. Angel Pagan would walk followed by a sac bunt by Marco Scutaro. Pablo Sandoval would hit a RBI single to score Matt Cain the only run that would be needed today to beat the Dbacks.

Buster Posey Collects RBI 100 On A Base Hit.

Buster Posey would hit a single in the next at bat to get his 100th RBI on the season and take a 2-0 lead in the game. In the 4th the Giants would get a triple out of Brandon Belt who went 3 for 4 on the night to lead the way for the Orange & Black. Marco Scutaro would get a RBI single to LF to score Brandon Belt and the Giants end the night beating the Dbacks by a score of 6-0. My game ball has to go to the lights out pitching of Matt Cain who got the win tonight with his arm and 2 for 2 performance in the batters box.

Notes: The Giants are expected to release a statement tomorrow that will end the season of Melky Cabrera as they decide to not bring him back this season in the playoffs after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

The Season Is Over For Melky Cabrera After The Giants Decision To NOT Add Him To The Playoff Roster

Preview: The series is even at one a piece and will be decided tomorrow night when the Dbacks send young gunner Patrick Corbin to the mound to Square off against Barry Zito.

The Diamondbacks head into San Francisco to face the Playoff bound Giants in hopes to steal a few wins and gain a few games towards that hopeful wildcard spot.

Tyler Skaggs shut down for the season

The Dbacks who scratched Rookie Tyler Skaggs from his start due to a loss in velocity in recent starts has been shutdown by the Dbacks so they turn to Josh Collmenter.

Tim Lincecum

The Giants send Tim Lincecum to the mound to square off against a Dbacks team who has absolutely dominated him this year and had a loosing season so far this year. This outing for Lincecum would be reminiscent of his last against the Dbacks as he gets shelled by the man we will now refer to as “The Lincecum Killer” or TLK Paul Goldschmidtwho was 7 for 14 with 4 home runs batting .571 & 10 RBI’s before today is now 8 for 15 with 5 home runs.

The Lincecum Killer Paul Goldschmidt

Today was not a story about how Lincecum dominated hitters but how he got dominated by the Dbacks and Goldschmidt who went 1 for 2 with 5 RBI’s with a run scored. Tim Lincecum would start off the night with 4 straight balls to Adam Eaton for a walk, Aaron Hill would single on a line drive to LF followed by a Justin Upton ground ball that goes off of Lincecum’s shoulder for an infield base hit to load the bases. With 1 out Paul Goldschmidt would hit a sacrafice fly  to LF to score Eaton and Lincecum who could not command his fast ball would throw a wild pitch and Aaron Hill would score before a walk to Jason Kubel before getting Ryan Wheeler out. The 2nd inning would go by without a score but in the 3rd inning Lincecum would struggle again. Aaron Hill would lead off the 2nd with a single followed by a passed ball that would move Hill up 90′. Miguel Montero would walk and then Paul Golschmidt would step to the plate. The Lincecum Killer would take a breaking ball that missed high and drive it deep down the line and bounce it off the foul pole for his 5th home run against Lincecum and collect another 2 RBI’s to make it a 5-0 ball game. Into the bottom of the 4th and Josh Collmenter gives up a lead off double to Marco Scutaro to continue a 13 game hitting streak and Buster Poseywould swap places with him on a RBI double of his own as the crowd chanted MVP MVP.

MVP Candidate Buster Posey

Buster Posey is in a tight race for MVP with Pirates Andrew McCutchen, McCutchen who may have the lead right now because of the slugging numbers is barely holding on to a lead in numbers but Posey is Gaining on him. In the 5th Lincecum would serve up a single to Aaron Hill and a Justin Upton Walk would be yanked off the mound by Bruce Bochy after 4 innings and 7 runs on 5 hits and be replaced by Dan Runzler. Runzler like Lincecum would struggle to find the strike zone and would walk his first batter before falling victim to The Lincecum Killer Paul Goldschmidt who would hit a sac fly  to center to score Aaron Hill to give the Dbacks a 6-1 lead. Things would seam to get worse when 1 batter later while Jason Kubel was batting another wild pitch would be thrown and would cost the Giants another run. The Dbacks pitching would record 10 straight groundouts in the next 3 innings while Aaron Hill recorded 4 straight outs at 2nd. The Giants would add a run on the board on a single by Xavier Nady single and a pinch hit double by Ryan Theriot to score a run in the 8th. The run in the 8th would be their last scoring opportunity and the Giants fall short on a night where Paul Goldschmidt could do no wrong. My Game Ball goes to The Lincecum Killer Paul Goldschmidt for hit Home Run and 5 RBI’s. The Honorable mention goes to Aaron Hill who went 3 for 5 scoring 3 times.

2012 Rookie Of The Year Candidate Wade Miley

Preview: The Dbacks look to Rookie of the year candidate Wade Miley who is 16-10 with a 3.25 ERA against the Giants Ace Matt Cain who is a staggering 15-5 with a 2.86 ERA. The Dbacks who have won 7 out of 9 games recently has scored 5 or more runs in 6 of the last 7 games will have a tuff task trying to hit one of the most dominant pitchers in MLB today.

MLB Diamondbacks VS San Diego Padres

The Dbacks sent rookie Tyler Skaggs to the mound today to square off against a Padres team that seams to have the Dbacks number this year. Skaggs would go head to head Against Andrew Cashner but Skaggs would get pulled early in the 3rd after giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. Skaggs who after the game said was battling a flue bug that has been floating around the club house “it wasn’t the illness i felt fine out there i just didn’t pitch well”. Adam Eaton would get the start for the Dbacks in center field and bat lead off for the Dbacks, Eaton called up due to Chris Youngs calf injury, Eatonwould go 1 for 5 and would score a run marking his 3rd straigt game scoring a run and 3 game hitting streak.

AAA RBI Leader Ryan Wheeler

The bright spot of the night would go to rookie Ryan Wheeler who went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s on the night a career high in MLB shows why he was called up. Wheeler while in AAA Reno led all of AAA in RBI’s and got called up to MLB to help a struggling Diamondbacks team. Chase Headley would hit 2 home runs in this game one left handed and then one right handed, he said after the game “usually you dont see the ball very well from both sides of the pate, its usually one side or the other”. The diamond backs will send Rookie of the year canidate Wade Miley to the mound and look to get his 15th win of the season. For the Padres sends Right hander Casey Kelly to the mound to try and get his 2nd win.

Notes: Tyler Graham made his MLB debut with a pinch hit appearance for Cashner in the 9th after being called up from AAA Reno Aces.

The Rivercats would jump out first and go 2-0 on a home run from Jermaine Mitchell. The Aces answer back in the 4th inning with Brent Clevlensingles,

Taylor Harbin AAA Reno SS

Taylor Harbin singles, Tyler Bortnick walks, Ryan Budde with a sac RBI, Tyler Kuhn fly out, Josh Bell doubles, Wladimir Sutil would score making it a 6-2 game. The aces would add 4 more runs in the 8th after the Rivercats had tied the game in the 8th. The Aces would score 4 runs on a homerun and 2 walks from Josh Bell to take the league. AJ Pollock finishe 2 for 5 with 2 runs & 1 RBI, Tyler Kuhn was the hero today going 4 for 5 and scoring 3 RBI’s. Josh Bell and Taylor Harbin both record 2 hits a piece. The Aces would all reach base at some point in this game a true team win. Jensen Lewis would get the blown save and the win increase to 1-0. Rich Thompson gets the loss 0-1 on the season.

Preview: Aces send Veteran pitcher Joe Martinez to toe the rubber for the Aces VS Brad Peacock.

MLB Diamondbacks VS Cincinnati Reds

Today’s matchup featured Dbacks Wade Miley vs Reds Johnny Cueto in a game where Johnny Cueto pitched 7 innings and gave up 2 runs scored. Wade Miley would go 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. Wade Miley struggled in the first couple innings in keeping the ball down in the zone, every time he left one up the Reds would make him pay for it. Miley threw 54 pitches in the first 2 innings and ran up his pitch count but settled in pitching another 53 innings over his last 5 innings. Gerardo Parra had a 2 hit night along with  rookie Ryan Wheeler who went 2 for 3 on the day. Johnny Cueto improves to 17-6 on the year as Aroldis Chapmanrecorded his 33rd save and his 25th save in a row.

Rookie Patrick Corbin

Tonight the Dbacks throw rookie Patrick Corbin who has brought some life to this pitching staff over the past couple weeks. A young fresh pitcher with his 6th straight start looks to even this series up. Mat Latos who is 10-4 toes the slab for the Reds and looks to get back to his winning ways after his last start.

AAA Reno Aces vs Fresno Grizzlies

The Reno Aces take the Fresno Grizzlies deep in extra innings for the 2nd night in a row. Trevor Bauer started on the mound for the Reno Aces and lasted 6 innings and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. Trevor allowed one run when Fresno pitcher Boof Bonser hit a home run to deep center field, a pitch Bauer wishes he had back. I was very impressed with Bauer’s strength during his warm ups and on the mound. I sat down by the bullpen to watch his warm up routing and long toss and actually caught one of his long toss balls that was slightly thrown over Jensen Lewis into the seats. As he got loose he was stretched out from right field to the left field foul pole throwing 100 yards or so before slowly shortening his depth till at 60′. Talking with Mike Parrott the Aces pitching coach before the game he said “Bauer has actually shorten up his long toss routine a little lately & that he used to throw foul pole to foul pole.” Parrott said “I get tired just watching his routine” it does help that he is 21 years old.

AA Mobil Baybears vs Tennessee Smokies

The Baybears close this series with the Smokies with a loss in extra innings.  The Baybears are without one of their top offensive producers in Brent Clevlen who was called up to AAA Reno to replace an injured Adam Eaton who is on the 7 day DL. The Baybears take this game into the 10th inning and would loose the game on a walk off solo home run by Logan Watkins. This walk off home run would mark the second Dback farm team to loose in extra innings tonight with a walk off home run. Jonathan Griffin continues to Rake the ball going 3 for 5 with a RBI and a HR. Even Frey with a 2 hit night as well. ALL GAMES FOR TOMORROW HAVE BEEN POSTPONED DO TO THE HURRICANE ISAAC NEAR THE MOBILE AREA UNTIL FRIDAY AUGUST 31st.

A Viaslia Rawhide vs  Bakersfield

Blaine Howell of the Bakersfield Blaze gets the win in this matchup after Stalin Gerson gets pulled after 4 innings and 6 runs scored. Victor Capellan would get the loss for the Rawhide after he takes over in the 7th giving up 4 runs on 4 hits. The Blaze win this game 10-6 on the bats of Steve Selsky, Juan Duran, and Dominic D’Anna who all collect 3 hits a piece and account for 5 RBI’s.

Miami Marlins vs Dbacks Game 1 of Double header

imgres.jpg

Game notes: I have had the pleasure to watch all of Tyler Skaggs starts in Reno and whiteness the greatness he possesses as a starter, and today all of Major League Baseball got to see the same. Tyler Skaggs had some quality pitches today. His curve ball was his go to pitch.                                                           Donovan Solano has reached base in nine straight appearances and in the 6th                                                                                                                                                                    Tyler Skaggs walks Donovan Solano and Jose Reyes back to back  & The bullpen is up and moving.                                                                                          Tyler Skaggs wins his first MLB start as a pitcher in the bigs. Jacob Turner’s first career start was a quality start: 6 IP 4 Hits, 5 Ks, no walks. He Retired final 10 he faced. Final line for Tyler Skaggs in his MLB debut: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 4 K. #StandingOvation Skaggs was interviewed after the game and when asked how it felt to pitch in his first MLB game he answered “It was phenomenal,”  when he was asked what it felt like to hear the crowd cheer and give him the standing O as he walked off the field he said. “I mean, the greatest feeling I’ve had so far in my life.” when asked if he was nervous on the mound during his first start he replied “It got pretty nerve-wracking,” Skaggs said, “but I feel like I did a pretty good job.” The Dbacks catch a break in the first game when umpire Jim Joyce blows a call at second base on a sliding Gerardo Parra, Donovan Solano applied the tag to Parra before he got to the bag but Jim Joyce called him Safe. Parra would then score on an Arron hill base hit.

AA Mobile Baybears VS Jackson Generals

The Mobile Baybears jump all over Stevenson Garrison in the first inning as he gives up 3 runs on 4 hits. Brett Tomko would give up a run on 2 hits in the 2nd inning. Mobile would answer and add 2 more runs in the 2nd on a double by Alfredo Marte and singles by Chris Owings & Matt Davidson. In the 3rd inning the hitting machine known as Brent Clevlen hits a triple to left field. He would then score on a sacrifice by Matt Mangini. In the 5th inning Francisco Martinez singles on a line drive and Brad Miller doubles on a fly ball to centerfield which would score Francisco Martinez. The Mobile BayBears would make it a 7-2 ball game in the fifth inning when Brent Clevelen walks and Ed Easley doubles on a line drive to centerfield. the Baybears would tack on another 2 runs on the Yahtzee ball from the beast Brent Clevlen. The Generals would score in the 8th on Chih Hsien Chiang’s (say that 5X fast) sac fly. The win goes to pitcher Brett Tomko  after he went 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Brent Clevlen ended the night 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and 2 walks. The Mobile Baybears improve to 1 game over .500 at 65-64.

Marlins VS Dbacks game 2 of double header

WadeMiley.jpg

In game 2 of the double header the story of the game was Wade Miley, Wade Miley, & some more WADE MILEY!!! When Wade Miley took the mound tonight he had everything working for him. His fastball was Crisp his curveball had late movement that kept the Marlins off-balance all night long! AJ Pollock led off the game with a base hit off of Wade LeBlanc in the first inning and after a sac bunt Pollock moves to 3rd. He would then score on a RBI single by Paul GoldschmidtWade Miley on the mound for the Diamondbacks today breezes through the first two innings giving up no hits. Donnie Murphy breaks up Wade Miley’s NONO with a base hit. Jose Reyes blows middle on Wade Miley for a base hit  in the 4th and then on a pass ball Reyes moves up 90′ but gets left on base when Carlos Lee pops up. Arron Hill walks in the 4th followed by a double by Paul Goldschmidt. Chris Young pops up to 2B for out number 1. Chris Johnson with a blooper RBI and a 2-0 lead for the Dbacks. Wade Miley cruising through 5, allowing just a pair of hits and walk so far. Dbacks lead 3-0. Donovan Solano with a lead off single in the 7th followed by a bloop single by Jose Reyes & the Marlins have something cooking in the oven then Carlos Lee flys out. Austin Kearns then flys out for the 2nd out. Justin Ruggiano  grounds out and the marlins strand 2 more. Some clutch pitching for Wade Miley tonight keeping the Marlins off balance with 8 shutout innings! Wade Miley’s line is 8 innings, 4 hits, 0 Runs, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts, it doesnt get much better than that. The Dbacks are 3 outs away from a series tie as they go to the bullpen closer J.J. Putz. J.J. Putz closes the door on the marlins earning his 2nd save today. Wade Miley improves to 14-8. His 14 wins are the most by a NL rookie pitcher since 2005. #RookieOfTheYear

Reno Aces VS Fresno Grizzlies

Josh Bell with his fourth home run in three games gets the Aces a one run lead in first inning. Mike Jacobs gets his 14th double of the year but is stranded on base to end the 1st. Trevor Bauer is looking great early with some zip on his fast ball and a devastating curve ball. Aces threaten in the 6th with a Josh Bell base hit and a walk by Mike Jacobs but Cole Gillespie leaves them stranded. Aces down 3-1 as Trevor Bauer takes the mound in the 7th he retires the side without a run.  Tyler Kuhn with a lead off double for the Aces. Tyler Graham with a sac bunt moves him over to 3rd. Ryan Budde strikes out so the Aces go to the bench with Tyler Bortnickto pinch hit and Tyler gets some help when the SS boots the ball and a run scores.

imgres.jpg

Adam Eaton hits a ball down the 3rd base line and it goes all the way to the wall for a 2 RBI double and Adam Eaton Ties the game! Adam Eaton is by far the best hitter in AAA and he shows it collecting his 44th double on the season in the most crucial at bat in the game! The grizzlies would score a run on an error in the top of the 8th to take the lead back 4-3. In the bottom of the eight Mike Jacobs hits a single through the 5/6 hole into left field. Tyler Kuhn to the plate with 2 out and tying run at 2nd and he grounds out. Grizzlies add an insurance run in the 9th on back to back doubles. The aces are retired in order in the ninth and the ball game is over. Trevor Bauer gets a no decision, Matt Gorgen gets the Loss for the Aces but they maintain a 3 1/2 game lead. The win for the Grizzlies goes to Dan Otero. For the Aces Mike Jacobs was 2 for 2 with 2 walks on the night and only Bell & Jacobs record a multi hit night.

Visalia Rawhide VS San Jose

Well there’s not much to report in this game tonight except Jonathan Griffin’s HOMERUN in the top of the 9th to left field. Bradin Hagens for Visalia went 8 strong innings giving up only 1 hit and 3 walks. He does a fantastic job tonight before turning the ball over to closer Blake Cooper who blows a 1 run lead and loads the bases and walks in the tying run! So they go to the 10th and San Jose retires the side in order. Joe Panik singles on a line drive to left field and Adam Duvall walks. Bobby Haney would hit a sac fly walk off to score the winning run for the San Jose Giants. Jose Valdez earns the win for San Jose.

Nick Crawford: Today the Dbacks hope to erase last nights game from their memory… Today they hope to do that with Starting pitcher Trevor  Cahill (9-10 3.75ERA) and the Marlins look to counter that move with Big Ricky  Nolasco (9-12 4.94ERA). But if the Dbacks want to win this ball game they may want to consider not pitching to Giancarlo  Stanton and Jose  Reyes. Reyes was 4 for 5 last night with 3 doubles & the Man child known as Stanton had 2 massive home runs and 4RBI’s. If the Marlins want to win this game Nolasco has to pound the zone down and inside tonight and pitch around Jason  Kubel. The Dbacks want to jump out to an early lead and force Ozzie Guillen to go to the bullpen early. Ozzie did the best thing he could have done all year and that was to place Justin  Ruggiano behind Stanton in the line up. With Ruggiano batting .333 on the season you don’t really want to walk Stanton to get to someone who has a higher AVG. But Gibson just might take that approach tonight and roll the dice.

TRADE/MOVES: The Dbacks make a few roster changes in the past 24 hours, one move was to Trade Stephen  Drew to the Athletics for a farm short stop named Sean  Jamieson and to unload on some $ owed to Drew. I have got to meet Drew personally while on his rehab in Reno and I wish him the very best on his future in the Biggs, there isn’t a classier guy and better teammate than Drew.

The Dbacks also call on southpaw Tyler  Skaggs to come pitch Game 2 of Wednesday’s double header. Skaggs is the #2 pitching prospect for the Dbacks right now and some would argue that he is #1. Skaggs has great movement on his pitches & is a great kid. Skaggs has a 2.91 ERA and is 4-2 in the PCL this year, he was acquired from the Angels in the Dan  Haren deal that also brought young gunner Corbin and Saunders to the Dbacks.

The Marlins hand the ball to Jacob  Turner their #1 pitching prospect that they received in a recent trade to face Wade  Miley in-game 1 of the double-header tomorrow.

On behalf of the Marlins and the Dbacks I would like to send thoughts and prayers to Michael Weiner the MLB players union Chief who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, We all wish you well and a speedy recovery! God Bless.

August 14th, 2012

Codey Harrison – The season is over 100 games deep, but it’s never to late for mid-season award winners. This week we will be featuring NL Awards from Comeback player, all the way to the NL MVP. Although last year showed the sports writers who vote on these awards use factors that well, frankly should not be used. Example was the NL MVP as voters picked Ryan Braun over Matt Kemp just because the Dodgers weren’t in playoff contention. Although in our award winners below, we don’t factor in team’s success into any of the player awards. (All stats are up to date as of 8/13/2012)

Comeback Player of the Year: Buster Posey – San Francisco Giants – After missing most of the 2011 season with a broken leg which ultimately cost the defending champ Giants any chance of repeating as World Series Champions. San Francisco Giants superstar catcher Buster Posey is back and better than ever for the 2012 Giants. Posey is batting a robust .332, with a .406 OBP, and a .547 SLG%, to go along with 23 doubles, and 19 home runs, all this while playing a gold glove quality season at catcher.

Honorable Mentions: Jason Kubel Arizona Diamondbacks, Adam Laroche Washington Nationals.

Manager of the Year: Clint Hurdle Pittsburgh Pirates – Clint Hurdle has the Pirates set to break the 20 year losing season stretch, but even more important he has the Pirates in line to make the playoffs. Hurdle who was the former Rockies manager is the clear front-runner as long as the Pirates find a way to finish the season strong.

Honorable Mentions: Dusty Baker Cincinnati Reds, Davey Johnson Washington Nationals.

Rookie of the Year: Wade Miley Arizona Diamondbacks – What a unbelievable story Wade Miley is. Miley was expected to start the season in AAA Reno, but an injury to veteran Takashi Saito lead Miley to make the team as the teams long man in the bullpen. After watching Josh Collmenter struggle early in the season, Wade Miley was given a chance to start and has yet to look back. After posting numerous impressive starts Miley finally proved himself so much that he made the NL All-star team as the Diamondbacks representative. Most MLB writers feel that Miley is the leader at this point in the season with his 12-8 record, and 3.02 ERA.

Honorable Mentions: Bryce Harper Washington Nationals, Todd Frazier Cincinnati Reds.

Reliever of the Year: Craig Kimbrel Atlanta Braves/ Aroldis Chapman – This award is a anyone’s guess, Craig Kimbrel, Aroldis Chapman, or Aroldis Chapman, Craig Kimbrel. So far Kimbrel has 75 strikeouts in 43 innings, with 31 saves, and a 1.26 ERA. While Reds closer Aroldis Chapman who has an amazing 106 strikeouts in 57 innings, with 28 saves, and a 1.28 ERA. It’s hard to choose either Superstar closer, as both are Cy Young candidates as well.

Cy Young: R.A. Dickey New York Mets – The great story of R.A. Dickey continues, as the Mets Ace continues to produce. Dickey who is currently tied for the MLB lead in wins with 15, also boasts a 2.72 ERA, with 166 strikeouts in 162 1/3 innings. However the Mets have fallen off the cliff since the All-star break.

Honorable Mentions: Johny Cueto Cincinnati Reds, Stephen Strasburg Washington Nationals, Aroldis Chapman Cincinnati Reds, Craig Kimbrel Atlanta Braves.

MVP:  Andrew McCutchen Pittsburgh Pirates – Sure Andrew McCutchen was a 1st round pick in the 2005 draft, but not too many scouts could have seen McCutchen being the MVP caliber player he has been in 2012. McCutchen is putting up numbers out of this world, .362 AVG, .422 OBP, .607 SLG%, with 23 Home runs, and 71 RBI. At this point McCutchen is the clear front-runner for NL MVP, and the award is Andrew McCutchens to lose at this point.

Honorable Mentions: Joey Votto Cincinnati Reds, Matt Holliday St. Louis Cardinals, Buster Posey San Francisco Giants.
