Arizona-Diamondbacks

Codey Harrison (Lead Editor & President/Ceo) – The Arizona Diamondbacks are known for their depth at virtually every position in the organization. While depth is a great thing to have, The Diamondbacks would likely admit they wish they didn’t have to use their depth so early in the 2013 season. Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers made some noise in the off-season with some big name trades, starting with trading veteran center fielder Chris Young, For shortstop Cliff Pennington, and veteran reliever Heath Bell in the 3-Team trade. Shortly there after Towers finished a trade sending 2011 1st round pick Trevor Bauer to Cleveland in a three team trade that sent Reds shortstop prospect Didi Gregorius to the Dessert. What has also turned into a great trade for the Dbacks was the addition of LHP Matt Reynolds, in exchange for third baseman Ryan Wheeler. The most scrutinized trade however was the last trade Kevin Towers pulled the trigger on, sending 25-year old superstar Justin Upton, along with Chris Johnson to the Braves for Martin Prado, Randall Delgado, and 3 prospects.

During the off-season K.T. also signed veteran slugger Cody Ross to once again load up the Diamondbacks outfield. unfortunately the Diamondbacks have been rattled with injuries throughout this still very young season. Starting with injuries in spring training to Adam Eaton, Willie Bloomquist, Ross, and Gregorius, followed by early season injuries to Jason Kubel, and Aaron Hill. Not to mention the injury starter Daniel Hudson suffered in 2012 (expected back shortly before All-Star break,) most teams would have crumbled under such injuries, however the Diamondbacks are sitting at 15-11 and in 2nd place in the National League West.

Between all of the injuries and struggling veterans the Dbacks could see a number of prospect being promoted this season.

Good chance of promotion –

Tyler Skaggs LHP

Chris Owings SS/ 2B

Matt Davidson 3B

Tony Campana CF

Joe Patterson LHP

Not likely but possible promotion –

Randall Delgado RHP

Jake Barrett RHP

Evan Marshall RHP

Eury De La Rosa LHP

Long shots for 2013 MLB promotions –

Nick Ahmed SS

Kevin Munson RHP

There are some other prospects could debut sometime in 2013, but these are the ones that we feel most likely. Think any other prospects are worthy of promotions? Well feel free to comment below with other promotion candidates you can think of.

The Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Francisco Giants Game 3

If i told you the Giants were going to loose to a Dbacks hitter who had gone 2 for 4 with a run scored, a triple and 4 RBI’s you would think oh boy Jason Kubel did it again, or Dang That Aaron Hill struck again wouldn’t you? What if i told you your wrong! If i said he was also a rookie, would you say Wow Adam Eaton again? Now what would you say if i told you it was a rookie pitcher? You would say Get out of town!…….. Well i got 2 words for you Patrick Corbin…..

The Diamondbacks avoid a series sweep by the Giants by beating them 10-2 on Sunday afternoon On a day that Rookie Patrick Corbin could do no wrong. Corbin had great stuff all day and would pitch 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits. Corbin pleaded his case for a complete game to coach Kirk Gibson but Gibby said “no, and that he had been stretched beyond where he’d been this season and Josh Collmenter needed the work in the 9th. In the 1st Buster Posey would get it started with a RBI single to score Angel Pegan. The Dbacks would counter that when Adam Eaton leads off with a walk in the 3rd followed by a single by Aaron Hill and a 2 RBI double by Justin Upton to make it 2-1. The Giants would tie it up in the 4th on a RBI double from Brandon Belt.

Patrick Corbin Base Clearing 3 RBI Triple

Patrick Corbin single handedly beet the playoff bound Giants not just with his Arm but with his bat too when Ryan Vogelson loads the bases and decides to pitch to Corbin, this would turn out to be a huge mistake. Patrick Corbinwould turn on a ball and hit it down the right field line for a base clearing triple as he slides head first into 3rd.

Pitcher Patrick Corbin getting dirty helping himself out with a 3 RBI Triple.

Next up was Adam Eaton who would draw another walk on 9 pitches. Aaron Hill would step to the plate and hit a 2 RBI double to left field and the Dbacks would take a 7-2 lead, if you haven’t seen Eaton run the bases yet you should see this guy fly, he nearly caught Corbin who was trying to score from 3rd.

Adam Eaton scores

In the 6th Justin Upton would hit home run number 15 to make it 8-2. Onto the 7th where Ryan Wheeler and Gerardo Parra both walk Patrick Corbin would strike again hitting a broken bat single to score Wheeler. Adam Eaton would come up next and while he was hitting there would be a passed ball that scores Parra 10-2 Dbacks. Eaton would walk for the 3rd time today and finish 1 for 2 scoring twice with 3 walks for an on base percentage of .800 for the day, exactly what you want out of a lead off hitter. Chris Young is cleared to play tuesday and now Kirk Gibson has to make a decision go with the hot rookie or sit him and give Young a start, Eaton has started the last 10 games but is used to playing everyday with 2 days a month off in Reno so maybe he sits Upton… have to wait and see.

Game Ball Goes To Rookie Pitcher Patrick Corbin

My game ball for the day goes to Rookie Patrick Corbin who today was brilliant on the mound and devastating in the batters box who gets the win and improves to 6-7 on the year and drops his ERA to 4.02 Honorable Mentions: Justin Upton who went 2 for 4 scoring once with a double, 3 RBI’s and a HR.

A Huge week for the Diamondbacks organization as 3 minor league teams record championships in their respective divisions.

AAA Reno Aces vs Omaha Storm Chasers Championship Week

The Reno Aces dominate the Chasers and take game one of this series by the score of 13-1 in Reno with #1 pitching prospect Trevor Bauer going 6 2/3 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits.

Reno Aces Pitchers Trevor Bauer & Jensen Lewis

Ryan Budde with  2 home runs, and Tyler Kuhn, Ryan Strieby, & Mike Jacobs all record a long ball. Brent Clevlen with a 3 for 5 night leads the way as the Aces win the first game in dominant fashion. In game 2 the Aces would throw newcomer Daniel Cabrera who could not keep the ball down and struggled all night giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and would get yanked in the 4th inning. The Aces would loose game 2 to the score of 9-6 but wouldnt go quietly as A.J. Pollock, Mike Jacobs, and Tyler Bortnick all go 2 for 4 on the night.

Game 2 of the Reno Aces vs Omaha Storm Chasers series would be a ruff game for the Aces as they would loose the pivotal home game 9-6 and have to go to Omaha for the next 3 games to try and win this series. The Chasers would score 1 in the first and 1 in the 2nd innings and the Aces would answer with a run in the 2nd to keep it close. In the 5th inning the Chasers would open this game up and score 5 runs and start to celebrate a little too soon as the hearty Aces answer their 5 runs with 4 of there own. The Chasers would get 2 more runs in the 7th and the Aces would tack on their last run in the 8th and loose this game 9-6. Daniel Cabrerawould get the start for the Aces on the mound and would get the loss as he goes 4 1/3 innings and gives up 5 runs on 6 hits. 3 home runs would be hit by the Chasers on the night.

Mike Jacobs

The offensive player of the game for the Aces goes to Mike Jacobs who turns in a 2 for 4 performance scoring twice, with a home run and 3 RBI’s. A.J. Pollock, and Tyler Bortnick both record 2 hits and keep the Aces in striking distance but  the Aces fall short in game 2 and have their backs against the wall in un friendly grounds.

Tyler Bortnick

NOTE: Wladimir Sutil while batting appeared to take a batted ball off the knee cap and would go down in the batters box. He would try to walk on it but was unable to do so and Trainer Joe Metz would carry him off field. Sutil would later be placed on the 7 day DL.

Game 3 AAA Reno travels to Omaha Storm Chasers to try and steal game 3 in hopes to squeak out a win on foreign soil. Brett Butler said his team was up for the challange and when they are faced with adversity the true athletes come out and come up big. Depleated by September call ups the Reno Aces have lost their best players in Adam Eaton lead off guy who is the spark plug to this line up  got called up to AZ Dbcacks, Jake Elmore & Ryan Wheeler both called up along with Konrad Schmidt, and Tyler Graham all were starters for Reno now in big leagues. Reno lost some enormous arms in the bull pen to september be call ups in Tyler Skaggs, and Patrick Corbin are 2 of the pitchers who won a lot of games for the Aces but are now with the Dbacks. Even though the Aces lost their 1,2 & 3rd batters in the line up they continue to find ways to win ball games, a true testament to the depth of talent in the Dbacks organization. The Aces would go into game 3 knowing if they wanted to win that championship it would be in Omaha’s house in front of their fans, but that didn’t stop them as they go on to beat them in game 3 to the score of 3-0. The story of game 3 was Joe Martinez who pitched an outstanding shutout game through 7 innings allowing just 5 hits and 0 runs with 7 strikeouts.

Joe Martinez

Joe had everything going right for him, movement, location and some great defense from his teammates. Offensive player of the game goes to A.J. Pollock who went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, 1 double, 1 home run and 2 RBI’s accounting for all of the teams scoring in this game. Tyler Kuhn and Ryan Budde the only other 2 to record 1 hit. The Aces were outhit 5-4 but outlast the Chasers embarrassing them in their own house 3-0. The Aces just one game away from a PCL championship take on the Chasers tomorrow in what could be the last game for one and a National title shot for the other.

Game 4 AAA Reno Aces vs Omaha Storm Chasers would be a game where both teams leave it all out on the line. Brett Butler said he would pitch his ace Trevor Bauer if it came down to a one game situation game 5 but said he didn’t think this series had a chance of going a game 5 after game 4 performance.

Pitchers Trevor Bauer & Charles Brewer

In game 5 Butler went to the salty veteran Charles Brewer who would throw an outstanding 6 1/3 innings and give up only 2 runs on 5 hits before turning it over to the bullpen who has been nearly perfect over the past 6 games. Joe Patterson, Jensen Lewis and BIG Jonathan Albaladejo would combine to throw a 2 2/3 inning 2 hit shut out to give the Aces another great outing. The Aces hold the Chasers to 0 runs through 6 innings where they would score their only 2 runs of the game. The Aces would put up 3 crooked numbers on the score board and earn their first PCL Championship beating the Chasers 8-2 and earning that ring.

AAA Pacific Coast League Champions Reno Aces

The offensive player of the game goes to Tyler Kuhn who was brilliant going for 4 for 5 on the day scoring 3 runs with 3 doubles and 1 RBI marking his 2nd 4 hit post season effort.

Tyler Kuhn

A.J. Pollock would earn the MVP for the playoffs hitting a home run in his 2nd straight game. Mike Jacobs would also hit 4 home runs in the playoffs at crucial times to help the Aces win their championship.

A.J. Pollock

The Reno Aces now travel to Durham NC to face the Pawtucket Red Socks at 4:05 Tuesday the 18th for the AAA National Championship where the Aces will turn to their #1 prospect Trevor Bauer to get the win.

AA MOBILE BAYBEARS VS JACKSON GENERALS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

The Mobil Baybears repeat  as Southern League champions by beating the Generals on a score of 1-0 in game 4 of the 5 game series.

2012 AA Champions Mobile Baybears

The Baybears win the game 1-0 on a 3rd inning home run from Jon Griffin. Mobile gets 7 shutout innings from RHP Mike Bolsinger and the bullpen would remain perfect on the night to give the Mobile squad their 2nd streight ring. Matt Davidson was named the 2012 Southern League Champion Series MVP recording 3 hits, one of which was a 2 run walk off home run in game 3 that gave the Baybears a 4-2 win in the 10th inning.

A MISSOULA OSPREY VS OGDEN RAPTORS CHAMPIONSHIP

The single A Missoula Osprey team in a winner takes all vs the Ogden Raptors championship game where the Osprey would come out swinging and take this Championship by a score of 10-0.

Single A Missoula Osprey 2012 Champions

The Osprey throw 4 pitchers and give up 0 runs in 9 innings. The Osprey’s Jake Lamb finished with 4 RBI’s  and Yosbel Gutierrez each hit 2 run home runs to go up 9-0 and Lamb’s RBI single in the 8th would finish the slaughter of the Raptors. Yoimer Camacho gets the win for the Osprey and goes 5 innings and gives up just 3 hits and 0 runs.

THE DIAMONDBACKS ORGANIZATION MAKES IT A HAT TRICK AS ALL 3 DBACKS MINOR LEAGUE TEAMS WIN THEIR RESPECTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Tuesday August 21st, 2012

Nick Crawford: (Arizona Diamondbacks Beat writer for BHPBaseball) – It was a tough night in the Diamondbacks as all but one of their full seasons team and MLB team lost on Tuesday. The good news is top LHP prospect Tyler Skaggs starts the first game of Wednesdays double-header.

Single A Visalia Rawhide VS San Jose

Taylor Siemens gets the win tonight 7-5 for the Rawhide improving his record to 4-6 on the season. For San Jose Jack Snodgrass gets the loss dropping his record to 10-7 on the season. Freeman & Griffin Record a multi-hit night. The Visalia Rawhide score 6 runs in the fourth and that would prove to be too much for San Jose to recover. Visalia Rawhide end up being the only Diamondbacks team to record a win on the night.

AA Mobile Baybears VS Jackson Generals

Today Michael Bolsinger takes the mound for the Baybears (4-2, 3.45ERA) vs James Gillheeney (0-1, 3.55ERA).

Brent Clevlen continues to rake in AA for the Baybears adding another multi hit night to his resume. My son took hitting lessons from Brent while he was in AAA Reno, his approach at the plate is aggressive and he hits real hard! Even Frey with a 3 for 5 performance and a walk. Frey had 2 doubles and a RBI. Perez Rossmel goes 3 for 4. But your Mobile BayBears lose to the Jackson Generals 7 to 5. All but one player on the generals had a multi hit night.

AAA Reno Aces VS Tacoma

A miserable night for the Reno aces as they lose the game 15 to 4 today to The Tacoma Rainers. Not a good night for Zack Kroenke as he gives up nine hits, nine runs 4 earned & three walks, and four strikeouts in 4 innings. Brian Henry pitches 4 innings & he gives up seven hits & five runs, (five earned)  three walks and five strikeouts. Henry gives up three long balls while Kroenke  gives up one HR. Kroenke is charged with the loss moving him down to 6-4 on the season. On a good night Josh Bell goes two for three with two home runs, two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk. Konrad Schmidt also has a good game going two for four with a double and a RBI. The aces now return home to kick off a five game series against the Fresno grizzlies. Pitching phenom Trevor Bauer (5-1, 2.74ERA) gets the nod for Reno while winless right-handed pitcher Booth Bonser (0-2, 6.0ERA) toes the mound for the grizzlies.

Marlin VS Dbacks

The Dbacks wipe the sour taste of last nights game out of their mouth by jumping all over the starter Ricky Nolasco 5-0 after the 1st inning. The Dbacks send 9 batters to the plate in the first. The marlins would not waste much time getting on the board with 2 runs in the 2nd by knocking around Trevor Cahill.  The Marlins score another run in the 4th & in the 6th to erase a 5-0 lead. Stanton hit a ball down the line for a double that was blistered to the corner. If i had to describe Stanton’s swing with one word it would be VIOLENT. The bullpen comes in and pitches great for both teams. Dbacks had 2 on with 1 out and Heath Bell gets Elmore to ground out. Bell throws a 95 MPH fastball to end the inning stranding 2 baserunners. Top of 9th tie game the marlins get another hit out of Donovan Solano and he is 3 for 3. Brantley flys out to left, Murphy pinch hits and he pops up. so now we go to the bottom of the 9th tied. Chad Gaudin in to pitch for the Marlins and Young grounds out, Arron Hill flys out deep to right field on the warning track. Jason Kubel walks, & Goldschmidt fans at a 83 MPH breaking ball. so now we head to the 10th. Sam Demel in to pitch the 10th for the Dbacks. Gorkys legs out an infield base hit, Petersen with a sac bunt, Reyes intentionally walked. Lee then hits a sac fly to move Gorkys to 3rd. Stanton then steps to the plate with ice in his veins and determination in his eyes and absolutely  murders a ball to right field for a RBI & most importantly the lead! Dobbs flys out for out number 3. Steve Cishek
in to close Facing Parra striking him out,  Montero K’s on a 93 MPH fastball. Wheeler with a broke bat single and Jake Elmore walks. McDonald grounds out for out 3 and Cishek gets the Save! GIANCARLO STANTON STRIKES AGAIN!

On behalf of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Miami Marlins, @BHPBaseball, we’d like to send our thoughts and prayers to MLB Player Union Chief & best wishes to Michael Weiner, a great guy,  who is being treated for a brain tumor. #SpeedyRecovery

MLB Dbacks

Today’s game featured 2 young pitchers in Ian Kennedy for the Diamondbacks and Armando Galarraga for the Astros. Both pitchers went 3 innings allowing 0 runs but that would not hold up for long. the Dbacks get 5 runs in the 4th on a Home run by Aaron Hill (371′), a Chris Young Single scored Jason Kubel, a Ryan Wheelerwalk scored Paul Goldschmidt, Ian Kennedy helped himself out with a sac RBI and Gerardo Parra hit a GRD that would score Stephen Drew. The offense for the Astros was a little lack luster scoring one run in the 6th on a single by Castro. Arron Hill would make it a memorable night by hitting a 2nd home run in the 8th (355′) to take the Dbacks in the win column 8-1. Arron Hill Finishes the night 3 for 4 with 2 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R and a walk. Chris Young also had 2 hits tonight. Ian Kennedy gets the win and his line was 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 7 K’s on 98 pitches. stay tuned to tomorrows matchup when the Dbacks return home to face the Miamia Marlins as Joe Saunders (6-9) faces Mark Buehrle (10-11).

AAA Reno Aces

Todays game between the Reno Aces & Tacoma Rainers featured Daniel Cabrera 0-0 recently obtained from IND making his first start. and Danny Hultzen 1-2 from Tacoma. Reno would get the edge early in this game getting a run in the 1st inning off of something so simple…. It starts with the walk of Adam Eaton. Eaton is the fastest guy i have ever seen on the base path and he can create havoc for pitchers. the whole time your pitching you know in the back of your head he is going to steal a base you just don’t know when. even if you guess the right play his raw speed just may beat your throw. Josh Bell then walked moving the speedy Eaton to 2nd base where he likes to dance for the pitcher when he looks back, this frustrates pitchers into making bad pitches. with a couple jukes Hultzen doesn’t bite so there he goes, he speeds towards 3rd and he is safe. Adam just stole his 37th base on the season. Eaton would then score on a sac fly by Konrad Schmidt. Reno would lead the game until the 6th inning when Nick Franklin hits a homerun to right field. in the 8th Alex Liddi hit a 2 run home run to take the lead and the Aces would run out of innings scoring 1 in the top of the 9th on a Konrad Schmidt Sac fly Gillespie would score a run but it would be 1 run short. Aces fall 4-3 to Tacoma scoring 3 runs on 4 hits and Tacoma scored 4 runs on 8 hits. 3 of Reno’s hits came from Mike Jacobs, & Cole Gillespie Tomorrows game will feature the young slinger Charles Brewer for the Aces (9-7, 6.14ER) VS Tacoma’s Ramirez (4-3, 4.05) My prediction on this game would be Reno Aces Win By 2.

AA Mobile BayBears

Todays game was postponed due to weather. a double-header will be played shortly. stay tuned.

A Visalia Rawhide

Visalia Rawhide played VS Modesto today and Visalia looses a slug fest game10-11 with a combined 25 hits and 0 errors. there was some great defense today by both teams. 4 homeruns were hit today by Broxton, LaPensee, Parker and Valesquez all hit the long ball today and you know what that means ” Chicks Dig The Long Ball”!

ITS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR, “GO HARD, OR GO HOME”
