Game 2 of 3 Diamondbacks vs SF Giants 9/26/12

The Giants shut out the Dbacks thanks to the beast Matt Cain. Matt Cain just locked up his starting role in the divisional series championship Game 1 with an outstanding performance today getting his 16th win going 7 innings allowing just 4 hits, 1 walk and 6 K’s. The Dbacks struggled at the plate tonight and could not really get the ball rolling as they go 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position and strand 9. The Giants gave them plenty of opportunity with 3 errors but the Dbacks just couldn’t string any hits together to get a run across. Wade Miley the rookie of the year candidate would go just 4 innings and give up 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 3 K’s and drop to 16-11 on the season.

Matt Cain Gets The Win

Matt Cain would not only beat the Dbacks with his arm but would also do it with his bat in the 3rd inning hit a single to centerfield that did not look like a pitchers swing. Angel Pagan would walk followed by a sac bunt by Marco Scutaro. Pablo Sandoval would hit a RBI single to score Matt Cain the only run that would be needed today to beat the Dbacks.

Buster Posey Collects RBI 100 On A Base Hit.

Buster Posey would hit a single in the next at bat to get his 100th RBI on the season and take a 2-0 lead in the game. In the 4th the Giants would get a triple out of Brandon Belt who went 3 for 4 on the night to lead the way for the Orange & Black. Marco Scutaro would get a RBI single to LF to score Brandon Belt and the Giants end the night beating the Dbacks by a score of 6-0. My game ball has to go to the lights out pitching of Matt Cain who got the win tonight with his arm and 2 for 2 performance in the batters box.

Notes: The Giants are expected to release a statement tomorrow that will end the season of Melky Cabrera as they decide to not bring him back this season in the playoffs after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

The Season Is Over For Melky Cabrera After The Giants Decision To NOT Add Him To The Playoff Roster

Preview: The series is even at one a piece and will be decided tomorrow night when the Dbacks send young gunner Patrick Corbin to the mound to Square off against Barry Zito.

The SanDiego Padres try to avoid a series sweep by the Diamondbacks after loosing game 1 3-2 and game 2 by a score of 6-2. The Dbacks would loose a close one by a score of 6-5 after a late surge will stall in the 9th.

Rookie Pitcher Tyler Skaggs the youngest starting pitcher in MLB takes the mound today.

The Rookie Tyler Skaggs would toe the rubber for the Dbacks in his 5th start and would exit early in the 5th after giving up 4 runs on 7 hits. The Dbacks would a lot of production out of right fielder Justin Upton going 3 for 4 scoring 2 runs as Chris Johnson goes 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s on the night. The Padres would jump out to an early lead after a walk by Chase Headley walks and Yasmani Grandal hit a single. with 2 on and 1 out Jesus Guzman hits a home run to left center for a 3-0 lead.

Aaron Hill hits a home run.

In the bottom of the first Aaron Hill would get the Dbacks on the board with a solo home run. Andy Parrino would lead off with a walk that would pay off for the Padres when 3 batters later Logan Forsythe hits a RBI double. the next few innings go by with no runs until the bottom of the 4th when the Dbacks lead off with a Double by Upton followed by a walk to Paul Goldschmidt. Chris Johnson would hit a single to left field that would score Upton to make it a 4-2 game. After a pitching change by the Dbacks to Brad Bergesen would give up a lead off single to Parrino and Chris Denorfia would hit a RBI double. Chase Headley would Double 2 batters later to score Denorfia to make it a 6-2 ball game. In the bottom of the 6th Upton would hit a triple to deep center and Goldschmidt would hit a RBI single to go 6-3. Two batters later Chris Johnsonhits a RBI single to get the score 4-6.

Eaton hits his first homerun ball.

In the 7th the Spark Plug Adam Eaton would hit a ball to right field that would carry over the right field fence for a Solo Home run for his first ever MLB home run and his 8th on the season including AAA. SEE VIDEO HERE:http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=24933715 The Dbacks loose the game 6-5 as Tyler Skaggs gets the Loss and Clayton Richardgets the win improving to 14-12 on the season.

Game Ball goes to Justin Upton and Chris Johnson going 3 for 4.

My Game ball gets cut in half tonight as Justin Upton and Chris Johnson both go 3 for 4 on the night and both deserve the game ball. Tomorrow the Dbacks head to Colorado to face a rockies team hampered by injuries and a roster full of newcomers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Francisco Giants Game 3

If i told you the Giants were going to loose to a Dbacks hitter who had gone 2 for 4 with a run scored, a triple and 4 RBI’s you would think oh boy Jason Kubel did it again, or Dang That Aaron Hill struck again wouldn’t you? What if i told you your wrong! If i said he was also a rookie, would you say Wow Adam Eaton again? Now what would you say if i told you it was a rookie pitcher? You would say Get out of town!…….. Well i got 2 words for you Patrick Corbin…..

The Diamondbacks avoid a series sweep by the Giants by beating them 10-2 on Sunday afternoon On a day that Rookie Patrick Corbin could do no wrong. Corbin had great stuff all day and would pitch 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits. Corbin pleaded his case for a complete game to coach Kirk Gibson but Gibby said “no, and that he had been stretched beyond where he’d been this season and Josh Collmenter needed the work in the 9th. In the 1st Buster Posey would get it started with a RBI single to score Angel Pegan. The Dbacks would counter that when Adam Eaton leads off with a walk in the 3rd followed by a single by Aaron Hill and a 2 RBI double by Justin Upton to make it 2-1. The Giants would tie it up in the 4th on a RBI double from Brandon Belt.

Patrick Corbin Base Clearing 3 RBI Triple

Patrick Corbin single handedly beet the playoff bound Giants not just with his Arm but with his bat too when Ryan Vogelson loads the bases and decides to pitch to Corbin, this would turn out to be a huge mistake. Patrick Corbinwould turn on a ball and hit it down the right field line for a base clearing triple as he slides head first into 3rd.

Pitcher Patrick Corbin getting dirty helping himself out with a 3 RBI Triple.

Next up was Adam Eaton who would draw another walk on 9 pitches. Aaron Hill would step to the plate and hit a 2 RBI double to left field and the Dbacks would take a 7-2 lead, if you haven’t seen Eaton run the bases yet you should see this guy fly, he nearly caught Corbin who was trying to score from 3rd.

Adam Eaton scores

In the 6th Justin Upton would hit home run number 15 to make it 8-2. Onto the 7th where Ryan Wheeler and Gerardo Parra both walk Patrick Corbin would strike again hitting a broken bat single to score Wheeler. Adam Eaton would come up next and while he was hitting there would be a passed ball that scores Parra 10-2 Dbacks. Eaton would walk for the 3rd time today and finish 1 for 2 scoring twice with 3 walks for an on base percentage of .800 for the day, exactly what you want out of a lead off hitter. Chris Young is cleared to play tuesday and now Kirk Gibson has to make a decision go with the hot rookie or sit him and give Young a start, Eaton has started the last 10 games but is used to playing everyday with 2 days a month off in Reno so maybe he sits Upton… have to wait and see.

Game Ball Goes To Rookie Pitcher Patrick Corbin

My game ball for the day goes to Rookie Patrick Corbin who today was brilliant on the mound and devastating in the batters box who gets the win and improves to 6-7 on the year and drops his ERA to 4.02 Honorable Mentions: Justin Upton who went 2 for 4 scoring once with a double, 3 RBI’s and a HR.

IPK Ian Kennedy

IPK would get the win tonight when the only run the Dbacks would score would come off of a error from Hanley Ramirez  when he threw the ball away on a Paul Goldschmidt infield hit. So the story tonight was Pitching, Pitching, & more Pitching as the Dbacks win game one of the 2 game series 1-0. With JJ Putz out with lower back tightness the save would go to David Hernandez his 15th of the year.

AAA Reno Aces vs Omaha Storm Chasers game 1

The Reno Aces would open game one of the PCL Championship series with the most dominating playoff offensive performance in club history. The Aces would blow the Storm Chasers out of the ball park by winning this game 13-1. #1 pitching prospect Trevor Bauerwould start the night a little slow giving up a run in the 2nd and walking 5 guys by the 2nd inning but pitches out of a bases loaded jam in the 2nd.

#1 Pitching Prospect Trevor Bauer

For Omaha their top prospect Wil Myers was held hitless in this game where his team needed him one of the most. The Aces had 5 home runs on the night as Ryan Budde hits 2 HR with 3 RBI’s. Mike Jacobs, Ryan Strieby, and Tyler Kuhn all hit home runs on the night.

Every hitter in the Aces line up record at least one hit in tonights game as the Aces collect 15 hits on the night. The Storm Chasers Top Ace pitcher Jake Odorizzi looses the game giving up 9 runs on 9 hits. The Aces continue to find ways to win ball games without some of their top prospects.

AA Mobile Baybears vs Jackson Generals

The Baybears loose the first game of the AA championships to the Generals 8-1 in a game they were held scoreless for 8 innings tonight as James Paxton gets his 2nd win of the post season lasting 7 1/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run. Offensivly the player of the game goes to Pedro Ruiz of the Osprey who went 2 for 4 scoring once with a double and 1 RBI on the night. The Osprey win the game in front of 1308 fans at home. a late push by Ogden would stall in the 7th as they go hitless in the final 2 innings.

If you have ever been to a Reno Aces game you might have noticed this little guy who plays BIG at Center field and bats lead off…..

Adam Eaton PCL Rookie Of The Year & MVP

Adam Eaton although only listed at 5’8″ tall and 185 lbs he plays as if he was 6’3″ 240 lbs. The lead off hitter for the Reno Aces this year is Adam Eaton a humble man from Springfield Ohio, and an incredible athlete. Born December 6th 1988 at 23 years old has been named to the Pacific Coast League Rookie of the year and PCL Most Valuable Player awards. Adam a left handed center fielder drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 19th round of the 2010  MLB Draft came from Miami University Of Ohio ( Oxford OH ) and what a treasure he has been for the Reno Aces. Eaton leads the PCL in nearly every batting category including .379 AVG, 117 Runs, 181 Hits, 44 Doubles, 37 Stolen Bases and an on base percentage of .452. Eaton played 11 games at the beginning of the season with the Mobile Baybears and it didn’t take long for the Dbacks to notice the talent he had before calling him up to AAA Reno. The Reno Aces Manager Brett Butler was often told he was not big enough to play in the bigs himself and when he saw Adam for the first time he saw a lot of himself in Adam Eaton. Adam like Brett is one of the best bunters the PCL has ever seen, he once recorder 3 successful bunts in one game VS the Rivercats followed up with a double off the wall in center field.

Best bunter in the game.

I have never seen anyone nearly as fast as Eaton on the base path, what he lacks in size he more than makes up for it in speed and hustle. Adam once got yelled at by Butler for sliding head first into 1st base as fast as he could to beat the throw from the short stop in a game they had around an 8 run lead. Adam is always the dirtiest man on the field often sliding around in the infield stealing bases and going 1st to 3rd on an infield hit.

Always the dirtiest man on the field with a big smile

Perhaps its this hustle that has gotten him the fans vote for the All Star game and the Leagues vote for rookie of the year and MVP or maybe its the fact that he is the very last person off the field every night and doesn’t leave until he signs every last kids autograph & take pictures.

Adam Eaton & My Son Nick JR

I have been fortunate enough to watch every game Adam has played at Reno because i live there but it wont be long before he is lighting up the sports center highlight reel for the Arizona Diamondbacks. I talked with Adams High school Coach Scott Zerkle who said ” he is impressed with how he has matured as a young man as he has transitioned from High School to College, and to Pro ball.” Scott also said “I am so proud of him & that they have formed a very good relationship over the years”. Scott says “the amazing thing is this is only his third year of professional baseball. Guys aren’t supposed to be stepping through the ranks this quickly unless they are a top round draft pick. Adam is the perfect example that what is inside a player is sometimes more important than his physical size. His Hometown & Especially Cougar Nation is very proud and excited about his future.”  Adam never forgetting those who have helped him along the way continues to keep in touch, a show of  how classy he truly is. Adam becomes only the 2nd man to ever earn the PCL rookie of the year award and MVP in the same year. He joins a list of PCL MVP’s along side names like Paul Konerko, Tim Salmon, Tino Martinez, Sandy Alomar JR and Joe DiMaggio…..

MLB Diamondbacks VS Padres Game 1 of  3 8/24/12

Nick Crawford (Arizona Diamondbacks Beat writer for BHP Baseball) –  In game 1 of the 3 game series between the Dbacks and the Padres was all Padres tonight, in fact the Dbacks were beet by one man alone…… Not by your typical 4/5 hitters or the lead off guy….. the pitcher.

That is right Eric Stults single handed beet the Dbacks tonight with 7 shut out innings he allowed just 3 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Eric Stults did not win this game on his arm alone, he would dig in to the batters box and with 2-2 out hits drove in a career best 3 RBI’s on the night. The Diamondbacks would loose the game 5-0. Rookie pitcher Patrick Corbin would loose the game and drop 5-5 on the season. Corbin had a 3 game winning streak going for the Dbacks and had earned a starting position in the rotation. Kirk Gibson said after the game “he didn’t have very good stuff tonight, he didn’t locate very well and his pitches were up.”
tomorrow the Dbacks hand the ball to Ian Kennedy 11-10, 4.24 ERA and the Padres look to Clayton Richard 10-12, 3.73 ERA.

Game Notes: Kirk Gibson said today that rookie Tyler Skaggs would be added to what will be a 6 man rotation including 3 lefties. Dbacks TV sports announcer Mark Grace asked the Dbacks for a indefinite leave of absence and said it was for personal reasons. It didn’t take long to find out that this idiot was arrested for a DUI. i know some may say wow “idiot” is a strong word for a guy who has been with the Dbacks for so long but i’m sorry. Mark Grace made the decision to drink and drive last year and got caught, he was arrested, his license was suspended and was ordered to install an interlock ignition device on his car that would require him to do the “blow test” before his car would start. Yesterday Grace was pulled over by Scottsdale police for expired tags, during the stop police suspected he was under the influence and after he failed field sobriety tests was arrested. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license and not having the ordered ignition interlock. Thank god no one else was hurt because #Idiot couldn’t call a cab.

AAA Reno Aces VS Fresno Grizzlies Game 3
Daniel Cabrera gets his first start with the Aces and it was a quality start 7 innings pitched allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 6 strikeouts. Cabrera allowed a first inning 2 run homer to Brett Pill that would give the Grizzlies all they would need to beet the Aces. With no run support in this game Cabrera would get his first loss as an Ace. The lineup for the Aces was missing their lead off batter and PLC hitting leader Adam Eaton who suffered what is being called a mild concussion and could be placed on the DL. To loose Eaton for 15 days would be the biggest loss the Aces have suffered all year as he leads in AVG, hits, runs scored, doubles and on base percentage. the Aces have suffered from late season call ups when they first lost Ryan Wheeler to the Dbacks wheeler was the PLC RBI leader. Jake Elmore would get called up a few weeks later when the Dbacks decided to deal Stephen Drew, Elmore led the PCL in triples and was 2nd in the PLC in batting average only behind teammate Adam Eaton. Kirk Gibson has said with the september roster expansion process the Dbacks could likely call up a few other players like Trevor Bauer, Adam Eaton, AJ Pollock and others if the Dbacks were still in contention for the playoffs. with todays loss and the Dodgers and Giants win there chances are slipping away. The Aces look to turn thing around tomorrow by sending RHP Charles Brewer 10-7, 6.13 ERA to the mound to square up against RHP Andrew Kown 6-7, 5.77 ERA.

AA Mobile Baybears VS Tennesee Smokies Game 1 of 5

Mobile would jump out in front of the Smokies in the 1st inning with a 3 run lead off of some small ball by the Baybears but the Smokies would put the game out of reach when they scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning. Mobile would loose 11-5 tonight when Brett Lorin would give up 8 runs on 7 hits 2 home runs and 1 walk. Dallas Beeler would get the win for the Smokies to improve to 5-7 on the year. Matt Mangini records the only multi hit night going  2 for 4, 1 run, 2 doubles and 1 RBI. The Baybears look to turn the series around in game 2 with a win.

A Visalia Rawhide VS Stockton Ports

Visalia would jump to an early lead in the 1st inning 1-0 and would add3 more runs before the 4th inning to win the game 6-4. Jonathan Griffin led the way with a 3 for 4 outing scoring a run and 2 RBI’s. Yazy Arbelo & Carter Bell add a long ball to put an exclamation point on the night. Andrew Chafin sticks around long enought to get the win pitching 5 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run. Nate Long would get the loss for the Ports.
