If you have ever been to a Reno Aces game you might have noticed this little guy who plays BIG at Center field and bats lead off…..

Adam Eaton PCL Rookie Of The Year & MVP

Adam Eaton although only listed at 5’8″ tall and 185 lbs he plays as if he was 6’3″ 240 lbs. The lead off hitter for the Reno Aces this year is Adam Eaton a humble man from Springfield Ohio, and an incredible athlete. Born December 6th 1988 at 23 years old has been named to the Pacific Coast League Rookie of the year and PCL Most Valuable Player awards. Adam a left handed center fielder drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 19th round of the 2010  MLB Draft came from Miami University Of Ohio ( Oxford OH ) and what a treasure he has been for the Reno Aces. Eaton leads the PCL in nearly every batting category including .379 AVG, 117 Runs, 181 Hits, 44 Doubles, 37 Stolen Bases and an on base percentage of .452. Eaton played 11 games at the beginning of the season with the Mobile Baybears and it didn’t take long for the Dbacks to notice the talent he had before calling him up to AAA Reno. The Reno Aces Manager Brett Butler was often told he was not big enough to play in the bigs himself and when he saw Adam for the first time he saw a lot of himself in Adam Eaton. Adam like Brett is one of the best bunters the PCL has ever seen, he once recorder 3 successful bunts in one game VS the Rivercats followed up with a double off the wall in center field.

Best bunter in the game.

I have never seen anyone nearly as fast as Eaton on the base path, what he lacks in size he more than makes up for it in speed and hustle. Adam once got yelled at by Butler for sliding head first into 1st base as fast as he could to beat the throw from the short stop in a game they had around an 8 run lead. Adam is always the dirtiest man on the field often sliding around in the infield stealing bases and going 1st to 3rd on an infield hit.

Always the dirtiest man on the field with a big smile

Perhaps its this hustle that has gotten him the fans vote for the All Star game and the Leagues vote for rookie of the year and MVP or maybe its the fact that he is the very last person off the field every night and doesn’t leave until he signs every last kids autograph & take pictures.

Adam Eaton & My Son Nick JR

I have been fortunate enough to watch every game Adam has played at Reno because i live there but it wont be long before he is lighting up the sports center highlight reel for the Arizona Diamondbacks. I talked with Adams High school Coach Scott Zerkle who said ” he is impressed with how he has matured as a young man as he has transitioned from High School to College, and to Pro ball.” Scott also said “I am so proud of him & that they have formed a very good relationship over the years”. Scott says “the amazing thing is this is only his third year of professional baseball. Guys aren’t supposed to be stepping through the ranks this quickly unless they are a top round draft pick. Adam is the perfect example that what is inside a player is sometimes more important than his physical size. His Hometown & Especially Cougar Nation is very proud and excited about his future.”  Adam never forgetting those who have helped him along the way continues to keep in touch, a show of  how classy he truly is. Adam becomes only the 2nd man to ever earn the PCL rookie of the year award and MVP in the same year. He joins a list of PCL MVP’s along side names like Paul Konerko, Tim Salmon, Tino Martinez, Sandy Alomar JR and Joe DiMaggio…..
