Codey Harrison: San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has been suspended for violating Major League Baseball’s drug agreement between the Owners, and the Player Association after testing positive for testosterone. Melky Cabrera recently won the 2012 All-Star MVP after hitting a home run in the game. With the Giants, and Dodgers entering 8/15/2012 in a tie for first place in the National League West the Giants are dealt a huge blow as they will now be without one of their best hitters.

Cabrera was batting .346, with 11 home runs, and 60 RBI, and lead all National League hitters with 159 hits. After a breakout 2011 season with the Kansas City Royals, Cabrera was traded to the Giants in the offseason for LHP Jonathan Sanchez, who was recently dealt to the Colorado Rockies.

The most notable player to test positive for PED’s since Ryan Braun last October (Braun was not suspended due to improper handling of sample) Melky Cabrera again raises the question, Will Major League Baseball ever get past the Steroids/PED’s controversy?

Melky Cabrera released a statement saying “My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used,” Cabrera said in a statement released by the union. “I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”
